Marco Kreuzpaintner: A German Film Director
Early Life and EducationGerman film director Marco Kreuzpaintner was born on March 11, 1977, in Rosenheim, Germany. He studied art history at the University of Salzburg in Austria.
Early Career
Kreuzpaintner began his filmmaking career working in advertising and as an assistant to Peter Lilienthal and Edgar Reitz. In 1999, he directed his first short film. His 2001 short film "Der Atemkünstler" was nominated for the German Film Award for Best Short Film.
Feature Films
In 2003, Kreuzpaintner released his debut feature film, "Ganz und gar." His next film, "Sommersturm" (Summer Storm), which was released in 2004, brought him international recognition and won several awards. In an interview, Kreuzpaintner revealed that "Sommersturm" was loosely based on his own coming-out story.
International Collaborations
In 2007, Kreuzpaintner worked on the Roland Emmerich-produced film "Trade." In 2008, he adapted Otfried Preußler's novel "Krabat" into a feature film.
