Early Career

Marco Kurz began his professional football career in 1989 with VfB Stuttgart. In 1990, he moved to 1. FC Nürnberg before joining Borussia Dortmund as a defender in 1994.

Bundesliga Triumph and UEFA Cup Victory

Under Ottmar Hitzfeld's guidance, Kurz won the Bundesliga title with Dortmund in 1995. He then moved to Schalke 04, where he helped the team win the UEFA Cup in 1997 under Huub Stevens.

Playing for TSV 1860 München and Pfullendorf

Kurz spent the years from 1998 to 2004 playing for TSV 1860 München. In the 2004/05 winter break, he was loaned to SV Pfullendorf, where he became the playing coach and secured the club's position in the Regionalliga.

Coaching Debut and Promotion with 1860 München

In the 2007/08 season, Kurz became the head coach of the 1860 München reserve team. Following Walter Schachner's departure in March 2007, Kurz was appointed as the first-team coach. He left 1860 München on February 24, 2009, after overseeing 63 league games, winning 18.

Successful Tenure at 1. FC Kaiserslautern

On June 18, 2009, Kurz was named the head coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, signing a two-year contract. He led the team to promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season. The coaching staff extended their contracts until 2012 on August 11, 2010. Kurz was dismissed as Kaiserslautern coach on March 20, 2012.

Brief Stint at Hoffenheim

On December 18, 2012, Kurz was appointed as the head coach of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. However, he was dismissed on April 2, 2013, with Markus Gisdol succeeding him.
