Marcus Walz

Marcus Walz was born on October 3, 1994, in Oxford, England. His father was English, and his mother was German. After his parents divorced when he was three months old, his mother moved with him to Mallorca. Walz began kayaking at the age of twelve in the fishing village of Porto Petro. He later moved to Madrid to continue his training as a kayaker.
International Success
In 2014, Walz made his senior international debut as a member of the Spanish national team. He won a bronze medal in the K-1 500 meters at the World Championships in Moscow. A year later, he competed at the World Championships in Milan, winning a silver medal in the K-2 500 meters with Diego Cosgaya.
Olympic Glory
Walz's achievements earned him a spot on the Spanish team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Competing in the K-1 1000 meters, he qualified for the semifinals after a third-place finish in the preliminary round. He finished third again in the semifinals, advancing to the A final. In the final, he outpaced his rivals to win the gold medal.
Accolades and Recognition
Walz is a two-time European champion and a multiple medalist at the World Championships. He has also won numerous national regattas. In 2016, he was awarded the Spanish National Sports Award for his Olympic victory.
