Early Life and Education
Maria Forescu was born on January 15, 1875, in Chernivtsi (Czernowitz), then part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and now in Ukraine. She received her education at a boarding school in Prague, where her interest in theater blossomed. She subsequently took vocal and acting lessons.
Opera Career
In the late 19th century, Forescu began her career as an opera singer, performing in Vienna's theaters. She rose to prominence quickly and embarked on tours throughout Europe, captivating audiences in cities such as Amsterdam, St. Petersburg, Hamburg, Berlin, and Munich.
Silent Film Debut
In 1911, Forescu made her debut in silent films. After a nearly decade-long hiatus, she returned to the stage and focused solely on her film career. Although she often played supporting roles, she occasionally took on leading roles. In total, she appeared in over 80 films during the silent era.

Forescu's most notable silent film roles included:- "Peer Gynt" (1915), based on Henrik Ibsen's play

Transition to Sound Films
With the advent of sound films, Forescu continued to work, taking on возрастные (age-related) roles such as housekeepers, grandmothers, and socialites.
Nazi Persecution and Death
Forescu's career came to an abrupt end in 1933 with the rise of the Nazi Party. As a descendant of Jewish heritage, she was stripped of her rights and banned from working. She lived in seclusion in Berlin until her arrest and deportation to the Buchenwald concentration camp on November 23, 1943. She perished there, along with countless other victims. The exact date of her death remains unknown.
