Heli Guzenina-Richardson is a prominent Finnish journalist, television host, and politician. Born on January 12, 1969, in Helsinki, she has made significant contributions to Finnish society, serving as a member of the Finnish Parliament and the Espoo City Council.

Early Life and Career

Guzenina-Richardson's heritage is diverse, with a Russian mother and a German father. She attended the Finnish-Russian School in Helsinki and pursued a career in journalism. From 1993 to 1997, she worked as a television host for MTV Europe. In 1998, she provided commentary for the Eurovision Song Contest on Yle TV1.

Political Career

Guzenina-Richardson's political journey began in 2004 when she was elected to the Espoo City Council. She has since been re-elected four times. In 2007, she entered the Finnish Parliament, representing the Social Democratic Party in the Uusimaa constituency.

Within the Social Democratic Party, Guzenina-Richardson served as Vice Chairperson from 2008 to 2012. In 2011, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Health in the Katainen Cabinet. She held this position until 2013.

Personal Life

Guzenina-Richardson has had two marriages. Her first marriage to Mark Richardson, the drummer of the British band Skunk Anansie, lasted from the late 1990s to 2001. They had a son, Alex, born in 1999.

Her second marriage was to Mika Walkamo. They were engaged but ended their relationship in 2010.
