Maria Josefa Lastiri
Maria Josefa Lastiri, the wife of General Francisco Morazán, was born on October 20, 1792, in Tegucigalpa.
First Marriage
In 1818, she married Esteban Travieso, a landowner. They had four children and lived together for seven years until his death in 1825. Travieso bequeathed all his wealth to Maria and their children.
Second Marriage to Francisco Morazán
Shortly after her husband's passing, on December 30, 1825, Maria married Francisco Morazán, then General Secretary of the Honduran government. Their wedding took place in Comayagua, only 20 days after the adoption of the first Honduran Constitution, in whose drafting Morazán had participated. They later welcomed a daughter, Adela Morazán Lastiri.
Life after Morazán's Death
After Morazán was removed from power and executed in September 1842, Maria and her family returned to El Salvador. She outlived her husband by four years and passed away in San Salvador in 1846. She is buried in the Los Ilustres section of the Cementerio de Los Ilustres in San Salvador.
