Biography of Rosemary Franklin

Rosemary Franklin was a British actress and beauty pageant contestant from Wales. She was born on February 1, 1943, in the outskirts of Wrexham, a city in northeast Wales. However, her parents moved her to Lancashire, England when she was still a child. Despite her fame, Rosemary always held a special place in her heart for the village she grew up in.

Rosemary participated in numerous beauty pageants and won the title of Miss Wales, which allowed her to compete in the national beauty pageant in London in 1961. She went on to win the titles of Miss United Kingdom and Miss World later in the same year. She became the first British woman and the seventh European to win the Miss World pageant.

In addition to her Miss World victory, Rosemary also achieved second place in the Miss Universe pageant in 1961. Along with Gina Swainson from Bermuda, the Miss World winner, and the first runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant of 1979, Rosemary Franklin is one of only two women in the world who came closest to winning both the Miss World and Miss Universe titles.

Acting Career and Personal Life

After becoming Miss World, Rosemary briefly pursued an acting career. She appeared in several television series and starred alongside Bob Hope in the comedy film "I'll Take Sweden" in 1965. However, her acting career was short-lived.

In 1970, Rosemary married Warren Entner, the vocalist and guitarist of the American rock band "The Grass Roots," and they moved to Los Angeles together. They had a daughter named Jessica in 1976, but they divorced in 1981.

Tragic Death and Legacy

Rosemary Franklin passed away on December 2, 2000, in Marina del Rey, California, due to a drug overdose following severe depression. Her body was cremated, and her ashes were transported to Wales, where she was laid to rest in the cemetery of her childhood town in February 2001. Despite her short-lived acting career, Rosemary Franklin will be remembered as a beauty queen and an iconic figure in the pageant world.
