Biography of Mariana da Costa
Mariana da Costa, known simply as Mari, was born on June 18, 1988, in Marechal Floriano, Espirito Santo, Brazil. Growing up, she showed an early interest in modeling and began her career at the age of fourteen. Mari participated in various beauty contests and fashion shows, quickly making a name for herself in the industry.

Modeling Success
In 2006, Mari achieved the honorable fourth place in the Miss World Brazil beauty pageant. The following year, she was granted the opportunity to compete in the Miss Bikini - International contest. In 2007, Mari became one of the contestants at the Face Of The Universe event in South Africa and won the unique title of "Fourth Most Beautiful Face in the World." She also reached the finals of the Miss World Brazil 2008 competition, securing the fourth position.

Challenging Health Struggles
In December 2008, Mari's life took a tragic turn when she fell seriously ill. Initially misdiagnosed with kidney stones, she was later diagnosed with a urinary tract infection in January 2009. The bacterial infection, likely caused by the resistant bacteria known as klebsiella pneumoniae, led to a deterioration in her health. Despite efforts to save her life, Mari experienced a septic shock from the infection, leading to a decline in her overall well-being.
Amputation and Tragic Passing
As her condition worsened, Mari suffered from abdominal bleeding, resulting in the failure of certain internal organs. The necrosis of tissue in her limbs required immediate intervention, and a difficult decision was made to amputate her limbs during a final surgery. Additionally, her stomach was also removed. On the morning of January 24, 2009, Mari tragically passed away in a hospital in Espirito Santo due to complications from a severe bacterial infection and necrotic sepsis caused by the initial infection.
Global Attention and Farewell
The heartbreaking story of Mari attracted worldwide attention, and her friends received letters of support from all corners of the globe. Over a thousand people attended Mari's funeral, paying their respects to the young Brazilian model whose life was cut short by a devastating illness.
