Childhood and Early Life
Mario Casas was born on June 12, 1986, in La Coruña, Spain to a homemaker mother and a construction worker father. He has a sister, Sheila, and three brothers: Cristian, Óscar, and Daniel. Except for the youngest, Daniel, all of the Casas brothers became actors.
Education and Early Career
Casas initially aspired to become a firefighter or police officer. However, at age 7, he decided to pursue soccer and joined the local club Deportivo's youth academy. After relocating to the outskirts of Barcelona, he discontinued soccer and enrolled in art school.
Breakthrough in Acting
In his late teens, Casas moved to Madrid to study acting at Cristina Rota's school. His striking looks and talent led to his first film role as one of the four teenage friends in Antonio Banderas' melodrama "Summer Rain" (2006).
Rise to Stardom
Casas' breakthrough came in 2010 with the romantic drama "3 Metres Above the Sky," which earned him several award nominations. The film's success led to a sequel, "3 Metres Above the Sky: You Will Be Mine" (2012).
He continued to gain attention with roles in Paco Cabezas' controversial "Neon Flesh" (2011), the post-apocalyptic series "The Ark" (2011-2013), and the horror-comedy "Witching and Bitching" (2013).
