Mario Moya: A Master of Modern Glamour
Early Years and InspirationMario Moya was born in Mexico and raised in Chicago, Illinois. His fascination with fashion began at a young age, where he found inspiration in the glamorous Hollywood costumes and the elegant designs of Christian Dior. At just thirteen, he began sketching and sewing his own garments, emulating the film noir heroines and Parisian haute couture.
Journey to New York and European Influence
Moya declined a full scholarship to an art academy in favor of moving to New York City to pursue his passion. He quickly made a name for himself among the designers of 7th Avenue. In the 1990s, Moya worked at various fashion houses in Europe, absorbing the essence of European elegance.
Collaboration with Thierry Mugler
In 1995, renowned French fashion designer Thierry Mugler invited Moya to assist with Mugler's private clients in New York. Their successful collaboration led Moya to join Mugler in Paris, where he contributed to the spring 1997 collection.
Parisian Experience and Return to New York
Moya's work with Mugler earned him a reputation that landed him a position on the design team of Jacques Fath in Paris. He eventually returned to New York to work on Marc Jacobs' collection and became head designer at Zac Posen.
Debut Collection and Signature Style
In 2009, Moya's highly anticipated debut collection debuted, showcasing vibrant colors and clean lines. His garments are known for their exceptional sensuality and romanticism, accentuating the female form with intricate tailoring that flatters every silhouette.
Inspiration and Influences
Moya draws inspiration from legendary couturiers such as Charles James, Coco Chanel, and Azzedine Alaia, as well as from the works of artists like Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
