Marissa Jaret Winokur Biography
Marissa Jaret Winokur was born on February 2, 1973, in New York. Her mother, Maxine, was a teacher, and her father, Michael Winokur, was an architect. Marissa is of Jewish nationality. In school, she was a cheerleader and captain of the football (soccer) team.
Acting Career
Marissa studied at the American Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts under the comprehensive program. She made her Broadway debut playing Pink Lady Jan in the revival of the classic musical "Grease". However, her breakthrough role came in 2003 when she portrayed Tracy Turnblad in the successful Broadway musical "Hairspray". For her performance, she received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, Drama Desk Award, Theatre World Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award.
In addition to her theater work, Marissa has appeared in several films, such as "American Beauty," "Never Been Kissed," "Teaching Mrs. Tingle," "Scary Movie," "Fever Pitch," "Fugly," and "Shrek the Halls."
Television Work
Marissa also has experience in television. She starred alongside Pamela Anderson in the comedy series "Stacked." She also played a leading role in the CBS series "Fugly." Although the show was eventually transformed into a film, it received mixed reviews.
