Early Life and Education

Jens Peter Maintz was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and began playing the piano at the age of 8. He studied at the Stuttgart Conservatory before pursuing further training in Berlin and Salzburg under the tutelage of Hans Leygraf.

International Success

In 1993, Maintz emerged as a pianist of note after winning the Grand Prix at the German Music Competition in Bonn. Two years later, he achieved another milestone by securing the first prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Brussels.

Musical Repertoire and Recordings

Maintz's musical repertoire is primarily focused on the concertos of Mozart and Beethoven. He has a particular affinity for the works of Franz Liszt, having released a comprehensive recording of Liszt's entire piano oeuvre. Other notable recordings include compositions by Claude Debussy, Sergei Prokofiev, Johannes Brahms (cello and piano sonatas with Alban Gerhardt), and Benjamin Britten (cello and piano sonatas with Claudio Bohórquez).

In 1999, Maintz founded the annual Bebersee Music Festival in the outskirts of Berlin, where he serves as the artistic director.
