Marlies Dekkers was born on November 29, 1965, in Oosterhout, the Netherlands. She studied design at the Sint-Joost Academy of Art and Design in Breda, where she graduated with distinction in 1991. During her studies, Marlies was determined to establish her own lingerie brand that would stand out from the rest.

Establishing a Unique Brand

With the help of a government grant of 16,000 euros from the Ministry of Economy, Marlies Dekkers registered her brand in 1993 and released her first collection under the label 'Undressed by Marlies Dekkers'. Through her brand, she showcased a new approach to lingerie design. Initially, Marlies operated her company from her modest two-room apartment, and she had to venture into commerce and marketing to promote her products, establish relationships with distributors, and handle sales. Her sister, Anja Dekkers, later joined her in the business.

Personal Life and Achievements

In 1996, Marlies Dekkers married photographer Peter Wagenaar, and they have a daughter named Zilver. Peter was also involved in the management of his wife's company until their divorce in 2008. Today, 'marlies|dekkers' lingerie is sold in over a thousand retail locations worldwide, with flagship stores in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Paris, Bangkok, Berlin, Cologne, and Utrecht. A store opened in New York City in December 2008, but closed in March 2009.
