Early Life and Education

Martjin Fisher was born on January 28, 1968, in Utrecht, Netherlands. The fourth of four children, Fisher developed a love of performing arts at a young age, often entertaining his family with skits and singing commercial jingles. However, as he entered high school, Fisher became self-conscious, finding solace in drama classes, which ignited his passion for acting.

After graduating high school, Fisher enrolled in a preparatory course for conservatory. A year later, he transferred to the Social Academy, where he dedicated himself to honing his acting skills. To support himself during his studies, Fisher worked part-time as a drummer in bands and as a construction laborer. At the age of 25, Fisher was accepted into the Utrecht School of the Arts, supplementing his income by singing with orchestras.

Theatre and Film Career

Fisher's career took off in the early 2000s, with small roles in television series and feature films. He also became active in commercials, advertising a scratch-off lottery game and an energy and heating supplier. Additionally, he did voice-over work and participated in television shows as a guest and host.

But it was on stage that Fisher truly made a name for himself. From the mid-2000s onward, he performed regularly in plays, musicals, and Christmas shows. Among his notable performances were productions of "The Three Musketeers," "Peter Pan," and "The Imaginary Invalid." His breakthrough role came in the musical "Believe in Me," which ran in Amsterdam from 2012 to 2015. Fisher portrayed legendary Dutch folk singer André Hazes, earning a music award for his performance in 2013. He would reprise the role of Hazes on several occasions.

In 2015, Fisher starred in the biographical drama "Blood, Sweat, and Tears," which depicted the childhood, rise to fame, personal life, and untimely death of Hazes. His portrayal of the iconic singer earned him a "Golden Calf" award for Best Actor, the Dutch equivalent of the Cannes "Golden Lion."

Musical Bible Show and "Passion"

Fisher is known for his involvement in "The Passion," an annual musical Bible show held on Maundy Thursday before Easter in the Netherlands and broadcast live on national television. He played the role of Jesus Christ in the 2016 production, which drew an audience of 3.2 million viewers, surpassed only by the previous year's show with 3.6 million.

Film and Television

Fisher has continued to act in Dutch films and television series, including romantic comedy "Our Boys" (2017) and several leading roles in series. However, his popularity outside the Netherlands remains limited.

Personal Life

From the early 2000s to 2014, Fisher was married to Eve Fisher, an artist and educator. They had two sons, Jilles (2004) and Frank (2007). Despite attempts to save their marriage, the couple eventually separated in 2013 and divorced in 2014.

Fisher subsequently had a brief romance with singer and actress Ann-Marie Oubels, but their relationship ended due to their age difference. In 2017, he met vocalist Inge Borg Heldens, who is 21 years his junior, and they quickly fell in love. They welcomed a son, Micha Ingmar, in 2018.
