Biography of Martin Donovan

Martin Donovan is an American stage and film actor. He was born on August 19, 1957, in Reseda, California, USA. He grew up in a middle-class Catholic family and attended Pierce College in Los Angeles for two years. After that, he combined his studies at the American Conservatory Theater with performances in the Los Angeles theater company. Donovan gained recognition for his long-standing collaboration with director Hal Hartley. He appeared in several of Hartley's films, including "Trust," "Surviving Desire," "Simple Men," "Flirt," "Amateur," and "The Book of Life: Waiting for Apocalypse" (playing the role of Jesus Christ).

Career and Achievements

Apart from his work with Hartley, Donovan is known for his role as DEA agent Peter Scottson in the television series "Weeds." He received a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for his performance in the show. Donovan also won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of rebellious admirer Isabel Archer in the film "The Portrait of a Lady," starring Nicole Kidman.
