Max Grabert was born in Germany and received his musical education at the Institute of Church Music in Berlin. During his studies, he honed his skills in organ performance and delved into theoretical aspects of music under the tutelage of renowned professors such as Heinrich Bellermann and Woldemar Bargiel.

Career in Berlin

In 1894, Grabert became the musical director of the city theater in Rostock. Subsequently, he held various prestigious positions in Berlin, including organist and choirmaster at the Kaiser Friedrich Memorial Church (1895), the Dorotheenstadt Church (1898), and the Church of St. Mark (1924-1938). Throughout his career, Grabert was instrumental in reviving the performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's cantatas in liturgical settings.

Musical Contributions

Grabert composed a body of choral and organ works, but his most notable composition is the Sonatina for Oboe and Piano, Op. 52. This charming piece was penned around 1920 for Gottfried Schreiber, the principal oboist of the Berlin State Opera. Grabert's works reflect his mastery of both compositional techniques and the nuances of performance.
