Biography of Martin Klizan

Martin Klizan is a Slovak tennis player currently ranked 29th in the singles category and 146th in the doubles category, both of which are his personal bests.

Junior Career

In 2005, Klizan won the European Junior Championship in the under-16 category in both singles and doubles, partnering with fellow Slovak Andrej Martin. He had a successful junior career, winning 52 singles matches and reaching the number one ranking in 2007.

Professional Career

Klizan turned professional in 2007 and made his first appearance in a Grand Slam tournament at the 2010 US Open. Unfortunately, he was eliminated in the first round by former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero. However, he had a breakthrough year in 2012 when he reached the second round of the French Open and the fourth round of the US Open, defeating notable players such as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga along the way.

ATP Tour Success

In 2012, Klizan won his first ATP Tour title at the St. Petersburg Open, where he defeated Fabio Fognini in the final. He has also had success on the Challenger circuit, reaching nine finals and winning six of them. His most recent Challenger title came in August 2012, when he defeated Simone Bolelli in the final in San Marino.
