Biography of Martin Landau

Early Life and Youth

Martin Landau, an American actor and caricaturist, was born on June 20, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a family that had no connection to the film industry. His father, Morris Landau, was a financier, while his mother, Selma, was involved in trading. Despite their pragmatic nature, Landau's parents did not understand his inclination towards acting. From a young age, Landau impressed people with his performances in school plays. However, his dreams of working for a major company were shattered when he was repeatedly turned down for job opportunities. Landau eventually found work as a caricaturist for the New York Daily News, and with the money he earned, he was able to attend the prestigious Pratt Institute, a leading art and design college in the United States.
