Biography of Virginia Field

Early Life and Family

Virginia Field, born Margaret Cynthia Field, was born on November 4, 1917, in London. Her father was a judge in the English County Court of Leicester. Her mother was a first cousin of Robert Edward Lee, one of the most famous American military commanders of the 19th century.

Acting Career

Field began her acting career in England before moving to the United States. She made her film debut in the family drama "Little Lord Fauntleroy" in 1936, directed by John Cromwell. Throughout her career, she appeared in over 40 films, including Edward H. Griffith's comedy "Ladies in Love" in 1936, the war melodrama "Waterloo Bridge" in 1940, and the film-noir "Repeat Performance" in 1947. She portrayed Morgan Le Fay in the musical fantasy film "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" in 1947 and played the role of Freddie in Gerald Mayer's drama "Dial 1119" in 1950.

Marriages and Personal Life

Field was married three times. From 1942 to 1946, she was married to actor Paul Douglas, with whom she had a daughter named Margaret Field Douglas in 1945. From 1947 to 1948, her second husband was Howard Grode. Finally, from 1951 until her death, Virginia was married to actor Willard Parker.

Death

Virginia Field passed away on January 2, 1992, in Palm Desert, California, at the age of 74.
