Biography of Martina Sorbara

Martina Sorbara is a Canadian singer-songwriter born on November 13, 1978. She is the daughter of Greg Sorbara, a member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament and former Minister of Finance for the province.

Early Career

Sorbara released her debut album, 'Unplaceables', independently in 1998. However, the album was not reissued. Her second album, 'The Cure for Bad Deeds', was released in 2000 on an independent label. In 2002, an expanded version of the album was released on 'MapleMusic Recordings', a Toronto-based label. Both versions of the album were produced by Jian Ghomeshi, an Iranian-Canadian radio host, writer, and musician.

Music Career

Sorbara's single 'Bonnie & Clyde II' from her second album was accompanied by a music video that aired on the cable channel MuchMoreMusic. The song was also featured in the movie 'All I Want' (2002) starring Elijah Wood, Franka Potente, and Mandy Moore. Sorbara also recorded a cover version of the Christmas song 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' for the compilation album 'Maybe This Christmas Too?' released in 2003.

She contributed to the soundtrack of the romantic comedy 'Uptown Girls' (2003) by singing the song 'Spinning Around the Sun'. Sorbara's recording of the song 'Withered on the Vine' can be found on the 'From the Girls' compilation album released by 'Nettwerk' label.

In 2005, Sorbara became the lead singer of the Canadian band 'Dragonette', known for their electro-pop and new wave music. The band released two albums, 'Galore' in 2007 and 'Fixin to Thrill' in 2009, as well as two EPs and seven singles, including 'Easy' and 'Our Summer' in 2010.

Sorbara collaborated with the British electronic duo 'Basement Jaxx' on their 2006 single 'Take Me Back to Your House', contributing vocals and co-writing the song. She also appeared in the music video under the name Martina Bang. In 2009, she participated in the album 'Is This Tomorrow' by the Toronto-based group 'The Henrys', singing on the track 'Chair by the Window'. Additionally, she assisted in the recording of the song 'Fire In Your New Shoes' by American DJ Kaskade.

In 2010, Sorbara sang as the lead vocalist of her band 'Dragonette' on the song 'Hello' by French DJ Martin Solveig.
