Early Life and Influences

Martin Jacques, the British musician, was born in 1959 in Slough, Berkshire, United Kingdom. Not much is known about his early life, except for what can be gathered from the composition "Slough," which appeared on the album "The Brothel to The Cemetery" in 1996. As a teenager, he developed an interest in philosophy, religion, and literature and even enrolled in courses but soon lost interest, eventually moving to London without completing his studies. Upon arriving in London, Martin faced a small problem - he had nowhere to stay. Without much thought, he dug a small hole in the darkest corner of a park and began living there. Soon, friends found him a place in one of the city's worst neighborhoods, where Jacques witnessed the "other side" of the world, where criminals ruled, theft was honored, and any woman could be bought. It is likely that this criminal lifestyle had a profound impact on the young man, leading him to seek solace through music.

Entry into the World of Cabaret

In London, Jacques developed a fascination with cabaret, dreaming of creating his own show filled with mystique and magic. At the same time, he began training his vocals, focusing particularly on his falsetto, which he believed sounded particularly eerie and unusual. It is worth noting that much later, at the peak of his fame, Jacques earned the nickname "Criminal Castrato." In 1989, Martin placed an advertisement in a newspaper hoping to find a drummer and bass guitarist willing to join a group led by a falsetto-singing accordionist who performed songs about home abortions, group sex, and other sexual perversions. Only two individuals expressed interest in joining the group, and together they formed "The Tiger Lillies," which has since become a pioneer in a new musical genre. The group has been nominated multiple times for a Grammy Award and has released over 30 albums, which continue to enjoy immense popularity and constant reissues.

The Enigmatic and Unusual

Despite the success of their albums, Martin Jacques places special emphasis on their live performances, which often transform into magical spectacles with tricks and fire. "I always find it entertaining to watch people who are annoyed and offended by our music. They take everything to heart, while I simply entertain the audience," confessed Jacques after one of their concerts. One might hope that all of this is just a prank, a good joke that exists only in words but not in reality. However, once one believes the words of the musician, a question arises: what could have inspired the group to write such a large number of songs, each of which can shock naive teenagers and particularly sensitive individuals? For now, the answer remains a mystery, and Martyn Jacques and the entire group "The Tiger Lillies" remain enigmatic and unusual. Perhaps it is this magic that makes the group so popular.
