Marianna Sobol is a Ukrainian singer and performer, best known for her role as the White Singer in the famous Cirque du Soleil show Alegria. She was born into a family of musicians in Pavlohrad, Ukraine. Her father is a jazz musician and music teacher.
After completing her education at the Faculty of Show Business in the Kharkiv Academy of Culture, Sobol decided to pursue a career abroad. She chose to go to Macau, also known as the Asian Las Vegas, to earn money. However, it was initially challenging for her as she came from a small Ukrainian town and had limited knowledge of English. Despite these difficulties, Sobol's talent was recognized during an impromptu karaoke performance, and she started receiving offers for work as a singer.
Over the years, Sobol has traveled to many countries, performing with various musical groups. It was during her time in Macau that she first saw a Cirque du Soleil show, which inspired her to audition for the renowned circus. Despite the circus typically selecting artists from the USA, Canada, or Western European countries, Sobol impressed the scouts and became a potential artist for Cirque du Soleil.
In 2010, Sobol received a call from the artistic director of Cirque du Soleil's Alegria, who expressed interest in her joining the show. Despite her initial doubts about being chosen as a singer from the post-Soviet space, Sobol embraced the opportunity and joined the troupe. Her parents, initially unaware of Cirque du Soleil, now feel proud of their daughter's accomplishments, having seen her perform in Germany, Turkey, and Israel.
As the White Singer in Alegria, Sobol had to undergo extensive vocal and acting training. She also had the responsibility of portraying two characters, the White Singer and her alter ego, the Black Singer. Sobol's debut performance came unexpectedly when the previous singer fell ill, but she felt ready for the challenge. Since then, she has toured with Alegria across Europe and Oceania.
