Early Life and Career

Marylise Lebranchu was born in Saint-Renan, France. She holds a Master's degree in Urban Planning from the University of Rennes and a Bachelor's degree in Philology. From 1973, she pursued research at the Society of Mixed Economy of North Finistère.

Political Beginnings

In the early 1970s, Lebranchu became involved in politics with the United Socialist Party. She joined the Socialist Party in 1977 and served as a parliamentary assistant to the socialist mayor of Landivisiau from 1978 to 1993. In 1983, she became a municipal councilor in Morlaix and was elected mayor in 1995. In 1986, she was elected to the Brittany Regional Council.

National Assembly and Ministerial Posts

In 1997, Lebranchu was elected to the National Assembly, representing Finistère's 4th constituency. She served as State Secretary for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Crafts, and Commerce in the Jospin government from 1997 to 1998. In 2000, she was promoted to Minister of Justice. She held this post until 2002 when the Jospin government ended. Lebranchu returned to the National Assembly in 2002 and served as Vice President of the Brittany Regional Council from 2004 to 2010.

Minister of State Reform

In 2012, Lebranchu became Minister of State Reform in the Ayrault government. She held this portfolio until 2014 when she was named Minister of State Reform, Decentralization, and Civil Service in the Valls I government. In 2016, Lebranchu resigned from the Valls II government and returned to the National Assembly.

Retirement

In June 2017, Lebranchu announced her retirement from politics.
Personal Life

Lebranchu has been married to psychiatrist Jean Lebranchu since the 1970s.
