Childhood and Early Life
Mateusz Damięcki was born in Warsaw, Poland, on May 25, 1981, into an artistic family. His parents, grandparents, and father's aunt were all actors and actresses. Four years after his birth, his sister Matylda was born, who also became an actress.
Early Film Career
Damięcki made his film debut at the age of 10 with a small role in the popular Polish TV series "WOW." He went on to appear in Jerzy Gruza's "40-latek. 20 lat później" and Juliusz Machulski's "Mothers, Wives, and Lovers."
Acting Education
After graduating high school, Damięcki enrolled at the Warsaw Theater Academy. He graduated in 2004 as a skilled and experienced actor, having already performed in several productions at the Nowy Theatre in Warsaw and three seasons of the Polish soap opera "Klan."
Breakthrough Role
His first leading role in a feature film came in Jerzy Łukaszewicz's adventure movie "The Hunter: The Last Battle." In 1999, he began collaborating with Russian cinema, playing Pyotr Grinev in the historical epic "Russian Riot," based on Alexander Pushkin's works.
International Acclaim
In 2001, Damięcki starred in Filip Bajon's "Springtime of the Serbs," which marked his rise to stardom. His performances in the medical drama "On Good and Evil" (2003), Giacomo Battiato's "Karol. The Pope, The Man" (2004), and Polish TV series "Officers" (2004) further solidified his reputation.
Film and Television Success
Damięcki continued to dominate Polish cinema, starring in comedies like "The Teutonic Knights" (2005) and "Short Hysterics of Time" (2006). He also appeared in the Polish adaptation of "Grace Under Fire" titled "Hela in Flames" (2007). In 2007, he starred in the war drama "Tomorrow We Go to the Cinema."
Art House and International Recognition
Damięcki's versatility extended to art house films. In 2008, he played the lead in Dominik Matwiejczyk's "Black." International critical acclaim followed with his role in the German drama "Lost Time" (2011).
Return to Russian Cinema
In 2015, Damięcki reprised his connection with Russian cinema, starring in "How I Became Russian." He brought his American character to life through a collaboration with costumers and directors, who encouraged him to maintain a subtle accent.
Personal Life
Damięcki's first marriage to actress Monika Patrycja Krogulska ended in divorce in 2011. He is currently married to theater director and producer Paulina Andrzejewska. They often share photos together on social media.
Activism and Future Projects
Damięcki is an avid traveler and environmentalist. He often leads youth workshops and masterclasses at the CINEMAFORUM film festival. He also directs documentaries on endangered species. In 2018, he completed several TV projects and continues to perform in theater and film.
