Lee Grinner Pace, an American actor, was born on March 25, 1979, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. His father, James Roy Pace, was an engineer, and his mother, Charlotte, was a school teacher. During his childhood, Lee lived in Saudi Arabia for several years, where his father was involved in the oil business. Later, the family moved to Houston, Texas.
Pace attended Klein High School in the suburbs of Houston, where he studied alongside another future actor, Matt Bomer. Although Lee briefly left his studies to pursue a career in theater, he realized the importance of education and resumed his studies. In 1997, Pace was accepted into the Juilliard School, where he joined the 30th group of the drama department. He studied alongside Anthony Mackie and Tracie Thoms. During this period, Lee performed in several plays, including the roles of a noble lover in "Romeo and Juliet" and Cassius in "Julius Caesar". He graduated from Juilliard in 2001.
Lee gained recognition for his role in the film "Soldier's Girl" in 2003. His character, transgender woman Calpernia Adams, develops a relationship with 21-year-old soldier Barry Winchell, portrayed by Troy Garity. The tragic story was based on real events. Reflecting on his experience, Pace said, "Even with all my excellent training at Juilliard, I wasn't prepared for my first role in a movie, in 'Soldier's Girl,' where I played a transsexual... Being a tall, skinny kid from Chickasha, Oklahoma, 6'3'', 160 lbs, I didn't know what it was like to be a woman. So I went to the transgender community and met a lot of people, went to support groups, and really just had to educate myself because I didn't know. That was the first time that I saw hate crimes enacted on people that I knew and loved and cared about, so it was a really important role for me."
Pace continued to showcase his talent in various projects, including the comedy-drama "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" with Amy Adams and the fantasy film "The Fall" directed by Tarsem Singh, both released in 2008. "The Fall" received critical acclaim, despite its underwhelming box office performance. Pace's role in the film was considered one of the most artistic in his career.
In April 2013, Pace was cast as the villain Ronan the Accuser in the upcoming blockbuster film "Guardians of the Galaxy." The movie is set to be released in late July 2014. Additionally, Pace has recently been involved in the post-production stage of the untitled Lance Armstrong biopic.
Throughout his career, Lee Pace has showcased his versatility as an actor, taking on challenging and meaningful roles. From portraying a transgender woman to playing a villainous character, Pace continues to impress audiences with his talent and dedication to his craft.
