One of his followers managed to surpass Matt's record by wearing 227 t-shirts (or 224 according to other sources), leaving Matt disappointed. Determined to reclaim his title, Matt attempted to set a new record during the "Live with Regis & Kelly" show. He brought along 240 t-shirts but unfortunately, the attempt did not end well.

After wearing 177 t-shirts, Matt suddenly felt unwell, experiencing dizziness. Medical attention had to be sought, and he was given oxygen. Consequently, Matt officially lost his record. Nevertheless, the video of his accomplishment continues to break internet viewing records, solidifying Matt's reputation as the king of t-shirt layering.

Interestingly, the video does not show the actual process of wearing the t-shirts, as it is a lengthy and time-consuming task that takes several hours. However, the video does demonstrate how each additional t-shirt widens Matt's shoulders, shortens his neck, and eventually engulfs his head, leaving only his smiling face visible. It is worth noting that the combined weight of the 155 t-shirts in Matt's initial record was 45 kg.
