Early Life and EducationMatthew Ashford was born on January 29, 1960, in Davenport, Iowa. He grew up in a large family with seven siblings. His mother, Patricia, worked as a secretary while his father, Cecil, was a civil engineer. From a young age, Matthew had a passion for acting and participated in numerous school plays. He earned a degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Career Beginnings
After graduating, Matthew Ashford moved to New York City. One of his first major roles was as Drew Ralston on the soap opera "One Life to Live," which he played from 1982 to 1983. He went on to star as McCleary on "Search for Tomorrow" from 1984 to 1986.

Matthew Ashford gained widespread recognition for his role as Jack Deveraux in the long-running soap opera "Days of Our Lives."
