Biography of Matthew Gray Gubler
Actor, director, photographer, artist, and model, Matthew Gray Gubler has achieved great success in the modeling industry, but his true passion lies in the world of filmmaking. Gubler rose to fame as both an actor and a director. He is best known for his role as Spencer Reid in the television show "Criminal Minds".

Early Life and Education
Gubler was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Marilyn Kelch and John Gubler. He studied acting at the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, where he initially planned to specialize in cinematography. However, the school did not offer such a specialization. Gubler later pursued film studies at the School of Arts at New York University, where he focused on directing. He also spent some time studying at the University of California in Santa Cruz.

Modeling Career
While in New York, Gubler caught the attention of a modeling agency representative, and he began working with DNA Model Management. He worked with renowned fashion brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, and American Eagle. During his time in the modeling industry, Gubler also interned with director Wes Anderson, who convinced him to audition for a role in the film "The Life Aquatic". Although his role in the film was not significant, it opened the doors for him to join the cast of "Criminal Minds".

Acting and Directing Career
In 2006, Gubler had a small role in the film "RV", and in 2007, he provided the voice for Simon in the film "Alvin and the Chipmunks". He reprised his role as Simon in two sequels, released in 2009 and 2011. Gubler also lent his voice to a character in "Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur". He is well-remembered for his portrayal of Bart, the main character in "How to Be a Serial Killer", and as Paul in "(500) Days of Summer".

Gubler's first foray into filmmaking was during the production of "The Life Aquatic", where he made a documentary about his experience as an intern. The documentary was well-received and included as bonus material in the collector's edition DVD. He later directed a series of parody documentaries titled "Matthew Gray Gubler: The Unauthorized Documentary", in which he played himself. These parodies were primarily filmed on the set of "Criminal Minds". Additionally, Gubler directed five episodes of the show.
Personal Life
In the 18th episode of the sixth season of "Criminal Minds", titled "Lauren", Gubler had the opportunity to direct his close friend, actress Paget Brewster, in her "final" episode. He also served as a director and co-producer for the music video of the song "Don't Shoot Me Santa" by the American rock band "The Killers".
In 2009, Gubler suffered a serious knee injury while dancing, which required three surgical operations. Despite the surgeries, he had to use crutches for nearly a year. Currently, Gubler splits his time between Los Angeles and New York City.
