Biography of Matthew Stover
Matthew Stover is an American science fiction and fantasy writer, best known for his work in the genre of heroic fantasy. He was born in 1962 and graduated from Drake University in 1983 before settling in Chicago. Stover has had a diverse range of occupations, including bartender at a private sports club, actor, theatrical producer, and playwright. He was also one of the co-founders of a theater company.
Writing Career and Style
Stover's passion for martial arts led him to practice Degerberg Blend, a combination of 25 different martial arts from around the world. This blend served as the basis for his depiction of the fighting style of the protagonist, Caine, in the "Overworld" series. Stover has written eight published novels, with the ninth being "Caine Black Knife." His first works were fantasy novels in the "Barra the Pict" duology: "Iron Dawn" (1997) and "Jericho Moon" (1998).
One of Stover's most notable works is the "Overworld" duology: "Heroes Die" (1998) and "Blade of Tyshalle" (2001). These novels can be described as a blend of dystopian science fiction and fantasy, reminiscent of the works of Andrzej Sapkowski. In 2001, Stover released a standalone novel, "The Real Flash Gordon," which was a novelization of the Flash Gordon comic.
Stover has also written for various Star Wars series, including "New Jedi Order: Traitor" (2002) and "Clone Wars: Shatterpoint" (2003). In April 2005, he published the novelization of the screenplay for "Revenge of the Sith," the third episode in the Star Wars saga.
