Early Life and CareerMatthias Ginter is a German football player who currently plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach and the German national team. He is known for his versatility, playing as a central defender and defensive midfielder. From a young age, it was clear that Ginter possessed incredible talent. At the age of 11, he joined SC Freiburg, a club renowned for nurturing young talents.
Professional Career
On January 21, 2012, Ginter made his debut for SC Freiburg's first team in a match against Augsburg. He came on as a substitute in the 70th minute and scored the winning goal for his team in the 88th minute. This goal made him the youngest player in the club's history to score in a Bundesliga match, surpassing Dennis Aogo. Two days later, on January 23, Ginter signed a professional contract with SC Freiburg.
On July 17, 2014, Ginter transferred to Borussia Dortmund, signing a contract until 2019. He made his debut for Dortmund in the German Super Cup against Bayern Munich on August 13, 2014. Ginter played the full match, helping Dortmund secure a 2-0 victory. In his second season with Dortmund, Ginter scored his first goal for the club in a match against FC Ingolstadt (4-0) and was named the Man of the Match.
On July 4, 2017, Ginter joined Borussia Mönchengladbach, signing a contract until 2021 with an option for an additional year. The transfer fee amounted to 17 million euros, potentially increasing to 20 million euros with bonuses.
International Career
Ginter made his debut for the German national team in a match against Chile on March 5, 2014. He came on as a substitute in the 88th minute, becoming the 900th player to ever represent Germany. In May 2014, Ginter was included in Joachim Löw's squad for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he became a world champion. However, he was one of three outfield players, along with Kevin Grosskreutz and Erik Durm, who did not play a single match in the tournament.
On July 15, 2016, Ginter was selected for the German national team to participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He scored two goals in five games and won the silver medal with the team. On June 2, 2017, Ginter was named in the squad for the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. He played in four matches and helped the team win the tournament, earning a gold medal.
