Early Career and Club Success

Mauricio Victorino(born October 11, 1982) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays for Brazilian club Cruzeiro. A defender, he is a key player for the Uruguay national football team.

Victorino began his career with Uruguayan club Plaza Colonia in 2004. He quickly caught the attention of giants Nacional, who acquired him in 2005. In his two years at Nacional, he played a crucial role in the team's two Uruguayan championship victories.

International Debut and Mexican Adventure

In 2006, Victorino made his international debut for Uruguay in two friendlies against Venezuela. The following season, he moved to Mexican club Veracruz, before returning to Nacional in 2007.

Continental Success with Nacional

2009 proved to be a landmark year for Victorino. With Nacional, he reached the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores for the first time in the club's history. They also won the Uruguayan championship again.

Move to Universidad de Chile and Brazil

Victorino's success in 2009 earned him a transfer to Chilean club Universidad de Chile, which was ranked as the third-best team in South America at the time. In 2011, he moved to Brazilian club Cruzeiro.

Return to the National Team and World Cup Success

Victorino returned to the Uruguay national team and immediately became a starter in the crucial playoff match against Costa Rica. Partnering with captain Diego Lugano, he helped Uruguay secure a 1-0 away victory. He also played in the second leg, as Uruguay drew 1-1 and qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In 2011, he won the Copa América with the national team.

Family Connections

Mauricio Victorino is the nephew of former Uruguay striker Waldemar Victorino, who played for the national team from the 1970s to the 1980s. Waldemar is currently Mauricio's official agent and representative.
