Biography of Max Emanuel Cencic

Max Emanuel Cencic, an Austrian opera singer (countertenor), was born in 1976 in Zagreb, Croatia. From a young age, he showed a passion for singing and vocal training. At the age of 6, Cencic made his first public performance on Zagreb television, singing an aria from Mozart's "The Magic Flute." This performance marked the beginning of Cencic's journey in the world of opera.

Early Career

Cencic's talent continued to grow, and he had numerous performances and concerts at the Zagreb Opera. From 1987 to 1992, he was a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir, where he showcased his unique vocal technique that allowed him to sing soprano even after his voice broke during adolescence.

International Success

In the late 1990s, Cencic embarked on a tour across the United States, Japan, and Europe, performing in various world-renowned operas. He portrayed the role of Amor in Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice" in Vienna, sang the role of Rinaldo in Baldassarre Galuppi's "Il filosofo di campagna" in Potsdam, and once again performed in "Orfeo ed Euridice" in Drottningholm, Sweden. Cencic also sang the part of Xerxes in Handel's "Xerxes" in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Transition to Mezzo-Soprano Countertenor

In 2000, Cencic returned to the stage with a change in his singing style. He transitioned from a soprano countertenor to a mezzo-soprano countertenor. This change in vocal range brought him critical acclaim and recognition. His performance as Nero in Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea" in Basel, Switzerland, earned him the title of "Best Young Singer" in 2003.

Cencic's repertoire expanded to include operas such as Vivaldi's "La Fida Ninfa," Albinoni's "Il Nascimento dell'Aurora," and Vivaldi's "Orlando Furioso." He performed at prestigious opera festivals, including the Bayreuth Festival in Germany, Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci in Germany, the Festival of Ancient Music in Ambronay, France, and the Jean Carlo Menotti Festival in Spoleto, Italy. Cencic graced the stages of renowned theaters such as the Barbican Centre in London, De Doelen in Rotterdam, Jordan Hall in Boston, Ridotto Theater in Venice, and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Continued Success

In January 2006, Cencic appeared on German television in the "Mozart Show," performing the aria of Cherubino from Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro." In addition to his opera performances, Cencic also gives solo concerts, showcasing his talent as a versatile performer. It is known that he currently resides in Austria.
