Biography of Michael Glenn Mullen
Michael Glenn Mullen was born on October 4, 1946, in Los Angeles. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1968. Throughout his career, Mullen excelled in various military positions, gaining extensive experience and knowledge.
Appointment as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
President George Bush made the decision to appoint Admiral Michael Mullen as the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest military position in the United States. This position is traditionally held by military personnel, while civilian individuals typically serve as the Secretary of Defense, Army, Air Force, and Navy. Currently, Admiral Mullen leads the Navy's staff.
Approval by the U.S. Senate
Mullen's appointment by President Bush must be approved by the U.S. Senate, which has previously confirmed him for high-ranking command positions. Therefore, it is unlikely that he will face any challenges during this process. Mullen is set to replace General Peter Pace, whose two-year term as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ends on September 30.
Reasons for the Change

Gates was concerned that these hearings would provide an opportunity for Democrats in the Senate to criticize President Bush's Iraq policy. Admiral Mullen, on the other hand, did not participate in the decision to initiate the war in Iraq.

Admiral Mullen is married to Deborah, and they have two sons together.
