Maylin Wende: German Pair Skater
Early Life and Single Skating CareerMaylin Wende began her skating journey in 1992, initially competing as a single skater. Her most notable achievement in this discipline was a 4th place finish at the 2004 German Junior National Championships.
Transition to Pair Skating
In 2006, Wende switched to pair skating and partnered with Stefan Hörmann, winning the German Junior National Championships that year. However, the partnership dissolved due to Hörmann's decision to retire from amateur competition.
Partnership with Daniel Wende
In 2008, coach Karel Frauft paired Wende with Daniel Wende. Their immediate success included a silver medal at the 2009 German National Championships, a top-10 finish at the European Championships, and a 15th place ranking at the World Championships.
Qualification for the 2010 Olympics
The German Skating Union established a qualification system for the 2010 Olympics, requiring athletes to achieve a certain score in any of the first three international competitions of the season. For pair skating, the qualifying score was 138 points. Wende and Wende achieved 141.96 points at the 2009 Nebelhorn Trophy (7th place), securing their spot on the Olympic team.
German National Championship Victory
In the absence of the German top pair Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, Wende and Wende became German National Champions for the first time in their career.
