Biography of Sasha Cohen

Sasha Cohen was born in 1984 in Westwood, California. She comes from a family of a lawyer, Roger Cohen, and a former gymnast and ballerina from Odessa, Galina Feldman. Sasha has a younger sister named Natasha, who is four years younger than her.

Early Years and Figure Skating

Sasha was introduced to figure skating at the age of seven and a half. She decided to pursue figure skating because she was passionate about art and beauty. Initially, she participated in general group classes but then joined the group coached by John Nicks. It quickly became clear that Sasha was a driven and talented skater, and her early tournaments showed promise for future success.

Early Successes

At the age of twelve, Sasha placed fourth in the 1996 California Regional Championships. The following year, she improved her performance and secured second place in the same tournament. In 1997, she achieved fourth place at the Pacific Coast Sectional Championships. She then competed in the Junior Olympic Games, where she finished fifth.

Professional Coaching and Achievements

In pursuit of greater success, Sasha sought out renowned coach Tatiana Tarasova. Under Tarasova's guidance, Sasha flourished as a skater. However, she faced setbacks in subsequent seasons, finishing third at the 2003 U.S. Championships and failing to win a medal at the 2003 World Championships. After her disappointing season, Sasha changed coaches, with Robin Wagner becoming her new mentor.
