Megan Kalmoe: Olympic Rower and Scholar
Megan Kalmoe is an accomplished American rower and member of the 2008 Olympic Team.
Early Life and Education
Born on August 21, 1983, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kalmoe graduated from St. Croix Falls High School before pursuing a bachelor's degree in English and Latin from the University of Washington.
Rowing Career
Kalmoe began rowing in 2002 and has since competed in numerous international and national competitions, including the FISA World Cup, FISA Under 23 World Championships, Women's Four, NCAA Championships, National Selection Regatta, and U.S. National Championships. Her victory in the National Selection Regatta earned her a spot on the Olympic team.
Academic Achievements
Kalmoe has been a standout student as well as an athlete. She was selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic team in 2004, 2005, and 2006. She also served as the captain of the University of Washington rowing team in 2006 and was inducted into the 101 Club Scholar Athlete program.
Olympic Aspirations
Kalmoe is currently training diligently at the USRowing Training Center. She recognizes the significance of the Olympic Games, having once admired figure skaters competing in them. Now, she is preparing to represent the United States and her nation with pride in Beijing.
Personal Interests
In her free time, Kalmoe enjoys reading, watching movies, knitting, horseback riding, and gardening. She is also an avid shopper and has a sweet tooth. Kalmoe dreams of traveling the world, believing it will be her second greatest passion after rowing. She hopes to explore both well-known and hidden gems, immersing herself in diverse cultures.
