Melissa Ellen Gilbert, a well-known American actress, screenwriter, and film and television producer, was born on May 8, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, United States. She was adopted by the famous Hollywood actor Paul Gilbert after he married her mother, Barbara Crane. Melissa Gilbert has a sister named Sara and a brother named Jonathan Gilbert, who are both talented actors and have been involved in professional creative activities in film and TV throughout their lives.

When Melissa was eight years old, her parents divorced, and three years later, her adoptive father passed away. Melissa attended school and had a classmate who was the daughter of popular actor Michael Landon. Thanks to Michael, Melissa got a role in the television series "Little House on the Prairie" in 1983, where she played alongside him until his death on July 1st, 1991.
