Early Life and Education

Menachem Mendel Gluskin was born into a family of rabbis. His father, Aron Gluskin, served as a rabbi in the town of Parichi, Belarus. In 1878, Aron was invited to become the rabbi of the Jewish community in Parichi. Gluskin had seven daughters and one son, Menachem Mendel.

Menachem Mendel successfully completed his studies at a yeshiva and received ordination as a rabbi. He also pursued general education independently, studying to fill in the gaps in his knowledge.

Rabbi of Parichi and Minsk

After his father's death, Menachem Mendel became the rabbi of Parichi. In 1909, he married Friedl Rabinovich, the daughter of the chief rabbi of Minsk. In 1924, Gluskin became the chief rabbi of Minsk.

Trial and Arrest

Gluskin was indicted in a controversial trial organized by the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee against ritual slaughtering (known as the "Shochtim Trial"), which began in 1925. He was acquitted but later arrested again in 1930 for alleged counter-revolutionary活動を. He was released from prison after international protests.

In 1934, Gluskin was offered the position of rabbi at the Leningrad Choral Synagogue. He accepted the position and became a respected and influential figure in the community.
