Early Life and Career Beginnings

May Mangkalakiri was born on April 21, 1983, in Los Alamitos, California. Her talent for badminton was recognized early on by her parents, who enrolled her in professional coaching. In 1996, a close family friend opened a badminton club, sparking Mangkalakiri's love for the sport.

International Success

In 2001, Mangkalakiri made her mark on the international stage, competing in the Italy International, Pan Am Southern Classic, and Brazil International. Her impressive performances caught the attention of badminton experts, and in 2002, she continued her success at the SCBA Classic, Puerto Rico Open, and Taipei Open.

Dominance in Badminton

From 2003 onwards, Mangkalakiri established herself as a leading badminton player. She participated in numerous tournaments, both as a singles and doubles competitor, and consistently ranked high in the world. In 2007, she won gold medals in both singles and mixed doubles at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Olympic Ambition

Mangkalakiri is currently preparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. While working hard towards her Olympic dream, she has also excelled academically. She graduated from Villa Park High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from the University of California.
