Mette Frederiksen: A Danish Political Force
Early Life and EducationMette Frederiksen was born on November 19, 1977, in Aalborg, Denmark. Her father worked as a typographer, while her mother was a teacher. Frederiksen attended Aalborg Gymnasium and later went on to study administration and social sciences at Aalborg University, graduating in 2007. In 2009, she earned a master's degree in African studies from the University of Copenhagen.
Political Career
Frederiksen joined the Danish Social Democratic Youth in 1992. From 2000, she served as a youth consultant for LO, the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions. In 2001, she was elected to the Folketing, the Danish parliament, representing the Copenhagen constituency.
Within the Social Democratic Party, Frederiksen served as its spokesperson on culture, media, and gender equality. After the 2005 parliamentary election, she became the party's spokesperson on social affairs. She also held the position of deputy leader of the Social Democratic parliamentary group.
Ministerial Positions
From 2011 to 2014, Frederiksen served as Minister of Employment in the government of Helle Thorning-Schmidt. She then became Minister of Justice from 2014 to 2015.
Leadership of the Social Democratic Party
On June 28, 2015, Frederiksen was elected leader of the Social Democratic Party. She led the party to victory in the 2019 parliamentary election and became Denmark's Prime Minister on June 27, 2019.
Personal Life
Frederiksen was married to public relations specialist Erik Harr from 2003 to 2014. They have two children together, Ida Feline and Magne. Since 2014, she has been in a relationship with renowned Danish cinematographer Bo Tengberg. The couple married in July 2020 on the island of Møn.

Frederiksen is the co-author of the books "Postcards" (2003) and "From Struggle to Culture" (2004).
