Early Life and Education

Attilio Brugnoli Aghosti was an Italian pianist, composer, and music educator. Born in Pesaro, he graduated from the Rossini Conservatory in 1894, where he studied under Carlo Pedrotti and Arturo Vanbianchi.

Teaching and Conservatory Leadership

In 1900, Aghosti became the harmony teacher at the Rossini Conservatory. In 1909, he was appointed director of the Venice Conservatory, surpassing notable composers such as Ottorino Respighi and Ildebrando Pizzetti. He led the conservatory for over 30 years, guiding its reconstruction after World War I.

Conservatory's Decline and Aghosti's Dismissal

Under Aghosti, the conservatory's student orchestra made its debut in 1926. However, in the late 1930s, amid heightened tensions, Aghosti was dismissed from his post as director in 1939, allegedly for "professional incompetence."

Compositional Works

Aghosti's compositions included several operas, including "Jovo e Maria" (1896), which celebrated the marriage of the Italian crown prince to a Montenegrin princess. He also wrote symphonic, chamber, and vocal music.

Pianistic Career

As a pianist, Aghosti was known for his collaboration in a piano trio with violinist Mario Corti and cellist Gilberto Crepax.
