Early Life and Education

Mikhail Kusilevich Badanes was born in 1918 in Yelizavethrad (now Kirovograd), Ukraine. Fleeing persecution, his family sought refuge in Belarus in 1919, where Mikhail grew up in Minsk.

Academic and Military Pursuits

Mikhail excelled in mathematics and science. Initially pursuing engineering at the Minsk Polytechnic Institute, he transferred to the Stalin Red Army Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization. His graduation in 1941 coincided with the outbreak of World War II.

Combat Experience

As a graduate of the academy, Mikhail was assigned to the 109th Tank Division, specializing in tank technology. His battalion defended at Yelnya, enduring heavy losses. Mikhail fought on the Volkhov, Leningrad, and Kursk fronts, earning medals for the defense of Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad.

Post-War Life

After the war, Mikhail continued his career in engineering. He worked as a representative for the Ministry of Defense, supervising various military production facilities, including the Omsk Tank Factory, the Omsk Tank Design Bureau, and several metallurgical and manufacturing plants. Despite his accomplishments, he remained a colonel and never held a directorial position.
