Mikhail Naumovich Bronshtein: A Hero of the Great Patriotic War and State Prize Laureate

Born on June 22, 1910, in Odessa, Mikhail Naumovich Bronshtein was the son of a tailor father and a homemaker mother. After completing his seven-year education, he attended a trade school in Proskurov, graduating in 1930 as a locksmith.

Early Career and Military Service

Bronshtein was sent to work at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant in Nizhny Novgorod in 1930. In 1934, he transitioned to Komsomol work at the Gorky Automobile Plant's assembly shop. In 1941, he was drafted for military training and completed courses to enhance his political knowledge.

When the Great Patriotic War broke out, Bronshtein volunteered to fight and was assigned to the 128th Infantry Division. He saw action on the Shelon River and near Sinyavino, suffering a severe injury in September 1941.

Wartime Heroics

After recovering, Bronshtein served as a political instructor in the 825th Mountain Rifle Regiment, fighting for the liberation of Kerch. In 1942, he was wounded once more and then sent to Stalingrad as a political instructor with an anti-tank gun company. For his bravery in repelling a tank attack, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star on November 19, 1942.

In 1943, Bronshtein participated in the Battle of Kursk, fought for the liberation of Kharkov, and crossed the Dnieper River. He also took part in the Jassy-Kishinev Offensive, the capture of Budapest, and the liberation of Prague.

Post-War Career and Legacy

After the war, Bronshtein served in Hungary until 1945. Upon returning to Gorky, he held various positions at the Gorky Automobile Plant, eventually becoming the head of its joint production department. In 1973, he became a State Prize Laureate for his contributions to improving transportation and warehouse operations.

A prolific author, Bronshtein published "Complex Mechanization of Transport and Warehouse Operations" with co-author G. S. Prokhorov in 1973. Retiring in 1979, he dedicated the remainder of his life to promoting military-patriotic education. He passed away on January 29, 1986, and was laid to rest in the Old Autozavod Cemetery in Nizhny Novgorod.
