Early Life and Military Career
Ivan Ivanovich Yukhimchuk was born on September 5, 1903, in the village of Poboinaya, Ukraine. In November 1925, he joined the Red Army.
Military Education and Battle Experience
Yukhimchuk graduated from the Lenin Military-Political Academy (Air Force Faculty) in 1938. He participated in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol in 1939.
World War II
At the outbreak of World War II, Yukhimchuk was deployed to the Belarus border. He served as deputy commander for political affairs of the 9th Mixed Aviation Division.
In August 1941, Yukhimchuk became a commissar in the 1st Reserve Aviation Group of the Supreme Command Headquarters. The group later became the Air Force of the Kalinin Front, where Yukhimchuk served as commissar.
He also served in various other aviation units, including the Special Assault Aviation Group of the Supreme Command Headquarters on the Northern, Leningrad, and Volkhov Fronts.
Post-War Career
After the war, Yukhimchuk held the position of head of political affairs for the 1st Guards Fighter Aviation Corps from 1943 to 1945. He retired from active duty in 1945 due to health reasons.
Legacy and Honors
Yukhimchuk passed away on June 5, 1963. He was buried in the Golovinskoe Cemetery in Moscow. He was awarded the following honors:
