Early Career
Cherrey began his sprinting career at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where he claimed gold in the 4 × 400 meters relay. Two years later, he captured another gold medal in the 4 × 400 meters relay at the NACAC Under-23 Championships, while also placing second in the 400 meters individually.
International Breakthrough
Cherrey made his international breakthrough in 2017 when he earned a silver medal in the 4 × 400 meters relay at the World Championships in London. The following year, he became the US indoor champion in the 400 meters and subsequently represented his country at the World Indoor Championships. There, he achieved double silver in both the individual 400 meters and the 4 × 400 meters relay.
