Michael Clarke Duncan was an American actor, best known for his role as John Coffey in the film "The Green Mile". He was born on December 10, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was raised by a single mother.

Educational aspirations and early jobs

During his time in school, Duncan wanted to play American football, but his mother, fearing he would get hurt, prohibited him from playing. He attended Alcorn State University in Mississippi, studying communication, but had to leave due to his mother's illness. Back in Chicago, he worked for a gas company digging trenches and also worked as a bouncer in nightclubs. Eventually, he was hired as a security guard by a theater producer, and that led him to Hollywood.

Transition to acting

In Los Angeles, Duncan eventually found an agent and started his acting career. However, he had to work as a bodyguard to make a living.
