Michael Dukakis was born on November 3, 1933, in Brooklyn, to a family of Greek immigrants. His father graduated from the Harvard Medical School and worked as an obstetrician. His mother was also a trained specialist in the medical field. Dukakis completed high school in Brooklyn and graduated from Swarthmore College in 1955. He served in the United States Army and later attended Harvard Law School, earning his degree in 1960.
