Biography of Michael Goodfellow

Early Life and Introduction to Curling

Michael Goodfellow, a Scottish curler, stumbled upon the sport almost by chance. However, he has already achieved considerable success in his chosen field, with even more impressive results expected in the future. Born in Sterling, Scotland, Goodfellow learned to play curling while still a student. It is said that he became interested in the sport after being invited to a training session by a friend who was part of the British junior team. Goodfellow was so captivated by what he saw during the training that he decided to pursue this unconventional sport himself. He trained diligently and soon it became clear that he had great potential in curling.

Early Career and International Competitions

In his youth, Goodfellow participated in two Winter Universiades, in 2009 and 2011. In 2009, he played as a lead in the British team, led by skip John Hamilton, and the team finished in 7th place. In 2011, Goodfellow joined Glen Muirhead's team as a spare player, and the British team achieved their best result, finishing in 4th place. Goodfellow played in eight games in the round-robin stage, contributing to the team's success. He also competed in the World Curling Tour as a lead for Jamie Dick in 2008-2009 and later joined Glen Muirhead's team as a lead. In 2010, Goodfellow joined Tom Brewster's team, where he continues to play, although the skip position in the team has now been taken over by David Murdoch.

In 2013, they won bronze at the Ford World Curling Championships, now under Murdoch's leadership. Olympic Participation and Current Activities

In February 2014, Goodfellow made his Olympic debut as part of the British team at the Sochi Games. Together with David Murdoch, Tom Brewster, Scott Andrews, and Greg Drummond, he represented Great Britain. Although they were unable to win gold, the Canadian team led by Brad Jacobs proved to be stronger. Nevertheless, Goodfellow and his team brought home the silver medal. Currently, Goodfellow is actively involved in his own training as well as coaching other athletes. He participates in various charitable and community projects, with one of the most well-known being the "Champions in Schools" program, which teaches students life skills. Unlike many of his colleagues in the project, Goodfellow takes teaching very seriously and regularly conducts seminars throughout the school year.
