Early Life and EducationMikhail Grecu, a renowned Moldovan painter, was born on November 9, 1916, in the Bessarabian Roma village of Faraonovka (now in Ukraine). His artistic journey began in 1937, when he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest. From 1945 to 1947, he refined his skills at the Republican Art School named after I.E. Repin in Kishinev under the tutelage of M.E. Gamburd.
