Soviet football player and Ukrainian football coach
Mikhail Kalita is a former Soviet football player and current Ukrainian football coach. He began playing football at the Lviv Youth Sports School and his first coach was Igor Kulchitsky. From 1979, Kalita played for clubs such as SKA (Lviv) and "Podolye" (Khmelnytsky). After his military service, he responded to an offer from the head coach of "Zvezda" (Kirovohrad) and played for this team for six seasons. Kalita played over 200 games in the second league and scored 65 goals. He finished as the top scorer for "Zvezda" in five championships. Unfortunately, his career ended at the age of 26 due to a serious injury.
Coaching career
Kalita started his coaching career at the Kirovohrad Youth Sports School, where one of his pupils was Sergey Nazarenko, a player for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and the Ukrainian national team. He then coached "Zvezda" in Kirovohrad as an assistant to coach Nikolay Fedorenko. In the 1995/1996 season, Kalita helped the team finish in 6th place in the Ukrainian Premier League. He left "Zvezda" in the summer of 1998 by his own decision. From 1999 to 2003, Kalita coached "Nikolaev" and in the summer of 2004, he became the head coach of "Spartak-Gorobyna" in Sumy. He later worked as a coach for "Lviv" and in January 2009, he became the head coach of "Nikolaev," replacing Vyacheslav Mazarati. However, he left the position in April 2010, and Mazarati returned as the head coach.
In April 2013, Kalita became an assistant to the head coach of "Enerhiya" in Nikolaev, as the team prepared for their debut season in the Second League. Mazarati remained the head coach.
Education
Kalita graduated from the Kirovohrad Pedagogical Institute and in 1996, he completed the Higher School of Coaches in Kyiv.
